The Garhwal mountain ranges in Uttarakhand, India, are part of the Himalayan range, and at the Upper Garhwal Himalayas, Kedarkantha is located. The Kedarkantha Trek is a convenient hike that can be done at any time of year.

The Kedarkantha Trek begins with the Govind National Park, which is a treasure chest of vegetation and fauna, including leopards, bears, musk deer, and a variety of birds.  The uniqueness of this trip is the way it combines beautiful scenery with a tough path, adventure, and less hustle. The Kedarkantha Trek takes approximately 4 to 5 days to accomplish.

Kedarkantha Trek is an exalted Himalayan high summit in Uttarakhand. Govind Wildlife Sanctuary or Govind National Park is thelocation for the Kedarkantha Trek. Throughout the Kedarkantha trip, you will be treated to a unique assortment of flora and fauna. The greatest season to go on the Kedarkantha trip is in the winter; thus, most experienced trekkers opt to travel in December to gain the most out of this trek. Though it is enjoyable at any point of the year, the greatest time to visit this Snowy walk is in the winter.

The Kedarkantha Trek leads you through deep woodland and large snowfields. The difficulty level of the Kedarkantha Trek is easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners. The altitude of the Kedarkantha Trek is approximately 12500 feet / 3800 meters. The days will be mild, but the evenings will be cold, with freezing temperatures as low as zero or further below zero. Despite the difficulties, the Kedarkantha walk offers a panoramic vista from the Summit.

The Kedarkantha journey is so spiritual that just saying the term conjures up beautiful images in your head. One of the first images that pique your interest is Lord Shiva seated atop an enormous Himalayan peak, pouring his blessings upon the universe. The Kedarkantha Summit is indeed a magnificently high summit in Uttarakhand Himalayas,

Kedarkantha Trek is a trekker’s paradise with its snow icy weather routes. If you’re looking for a brief escape from the humdrum activities of town life, try this for yourself, traverse your route through the vast green pine forests with cold breeze against your face hearing the voice of numerous fauna, and let the Kedarkantha trek experience lift your spirits.

Climatic overview of Kedarkantha trek

Kedarkantha during Summers: April, May, June

The Kedarkantha journey offers a magnificent lush green scenery with a variety of flowers blooming during the walk throughout the summer months. April clears away the last of the winter’s snow, revealing the land in lush greens and vibrant blooms. The hike trail softly weaves up through the lush forest cover of Oak and Pine to bring you to the swaying waters of Juda ka Taalab Lake. During the summer months, temperatures range from 6 degrees Celsius at night to around 20 degrees during the midday heat.

Kedarkantha during Monsoons: July, August, Mid-September

During the monsoon season, the region receives a lot of rain, making trekking difficult at times. However, if you’re looking for an adventure and want to push yourself, you may trek to the peak for a whole different perspective. You’ll be walking through rain, with grey and white clouds moving in and out. Rains cause a plethora of waterfalls to erupt, adding to the picturesque magnificence. Get adequate waterproof gear for the monsoons and an additional pair of warm clothes in case it turns cold at night.

Kedarkantha during Autumn: October, November

During the autumn season, the leaves begin to dry and fall off, and the colour of the meadows changes from green to brown, providing a completely new sensation. For novices, the fall months are ideal for trekking since the temperature is nice and the sights of the Himalayas are spectacular. During the fall months, the temperature ranges from a low of 2 degrees to a high of 15 degrees Celsius during the day.

Kedarkantha Trek in the Winters: December, January, February, March

The Kedarkantha trip is maybe the greatest winter trek in the Himalayas and snow trek in the Himalayas. A heavy covering of fresh white snow covers the whole hike path and surroundings. Because of the convergence of multiple Himalayan peaks, this part of the Himalayas receives early snow, and the quality of the snow is excellent. Its white powder makes it an excellent ski destination as well. The sight of a snow-covered woodland is both lovely and bizarre. It’s an event that immediately captures your heart and keeps you excited throughout. The Kedarkantha trek gets really chilly in the winters and temperature drops to -10 degrees and it adds more tinge of being on one of the best winter treks in the Himalayas.

We shall travel through deep Kedarkantha woods. We will go through Saur village while ascending, and we will catch fleeting vistas of snow-covered Himalayan ranges, but the most beautiful view on our Kedarkantha Trek is still to come. The route winds through deep pine forests, maple trees, and a few streams before opening up to a stunning Juda Ka Talab (Juda lake) at the top of 2800m. We’ll stroll for an hour to the meadows, where we’ll spend the night. Tents will be used for overnight accommodation.

Day 3Juda lake to Kedarkantha basecamp

Trekking time – 4-5 hrs

Altitude – Kedarkantha Basecamp, 3836m

We will begin our trek to Kedarkantha basecamp. Today will be a busy day for the photographers since the walking path is beautiful, with broad vistas on all sides and large snowfields adorned with green patches. Our destination, on the other hand, is much more magnificent. When we approach the Kedarkantha base, look for white peaks that make a wide arc from left to right. We’ll spend the night camping under the stars. Enjoy your meal while shooting stars sweep across the sky.

Day 4Kedarkantha basecamp to Kedarkantha peak summit and back to Juda lake

Altitude- Kedarkantha peak, 3810m

Imagine the splendor of the top if the Kedarkantha Trek base is this magnificent. The summit climb from Kedarkantha basecamp to Kedarkantha peak starts at 3am. The initial ascend is gradual where you trek under your headtorch’s light. The later part of the trail is rocky, steeper and narrower. Trekkers will be rewarded for their efforts with a stunning dawn vista of the whole western Himalayan range. We’ll spend some time at the peak before returning to the base camp for lunch at about noon. The walk down to Kedarkantha base camp is via a route different from the one taken for the ascend. Initial trail is steeper but less rocky. You will see many trekkers gliding their way down the snowy slope, however we do not recommend the same due to risk of injuring oneself if accidently hit a rock hidden under the snow. The overall descend is breathtaking with a beautiful view of the wide range of Himalayan range around you. We’ll arrive at Kedarkantha base camp from where we descend further after the lunch. We reach Juda lake in the evening and have dinner at camp.

Day 5Juda lake to Sankri by trek

It is one of the most magnificent descent paths in the Himalayas. This trial allows you to see the entire Himalayan range one last time. We will arrive at Sankri in the evening by afternoon. When we get to Sankri, we will check into the guesthouse and rest. Make the most of this day by exploring Sankri. We’ll have our meal under a sky filled with millions and billions of stars.

Day 6Depart from Sankri to Dehradun

We will wake up in the morning to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the magnificent mountains. Later, we’ll eat breakfast and pack our belongings before returning to Dehradun. From here you will depart for your final destination and the amazing journey will come to an end.
